The Week in Review: Must Do, Should Do, Could Do - How did I do?

On Monday, I wrote

The idea is to think about the things you MUST do, the things you SHOULD do, and then the things you COULD do. It’s meant as a daily exercise, and I did try it once before with some success. I will do it daily in private, but I wanted to do it publicly for the week and then post an update on Friday.

So here I am, on Friday, looking back over the week.

Must Do

  • Finish reviewing a manuscript for someone and provide the feedback to them. – DONE! I’m looking forward to talking about this book once it’s released!
  • Finish my series on moving from WordPress to Jekyll. – Still working on this one!
  • Learn some new things about Azure for a project - the “things” are TBD on Monday when I check work email again. – Turns out the client ended up going in a different direction, saving me from having to learn this new “thing”
  • Follow-up with two clients to make sure they don’t need anything from me. – DONE. I even followed-up today in light of the CloudStrike issues to see if one of them needed any assistance.

Should Do

  • Take the AZ104 exam and pass it this time. – sigh I had to reschedule the exam because a client meeting came up.
  • Schedule the next few months of meetings for the meetup I run. – Still need to do this.
  • Commit some code to GitHub that only lives on my Windows machine. – Still working on this.
  • Prep for a talk I’m giving on the 26th. – I’ve put some thought into it, but haven’t touched the Powerpoint yet.

Could Do

  • Figure out if a BIOS update will allow me to enable the functionality Microsoft says I’m missing in order to upgrade to Windows 11. – BIOS update has been installed, and Windows is now reporting that I CAN upgrade to Windows 11. Basically, the BIOS updated enabled TPM, and that was the last thing the PC Health Check was bitching about. Not that I’m in a big rush to do so, but it’s nice to know I can if I want.
  • Start working on some data analysis for an upcoming blog post I want to write. – Not done.

Yikes, not very good, eh?

  • I was 75% on my “Must Do” list.
  • I was a big ZERO on my “Should Do”
  • I was 50% on my “Could Do” lists.
  • I had an overall 40% completion rate.

Other things

I was involved in some client meetings this week, and I did have an interview for another one of our offices to help staff one of their projects. I found out today that I got the gig and will start next week!! It looks like a fun one!

I’ve been helping estimate another project for a RFP that’s due soon. It’s been instructive, especially since we brought in someone from another one of our offices to help with another part of the response. As an application developer, it was interesting to learn about another approach (Microsoft Dynamics).

A friend and I had our final meeting on a book we’ve been reading To Sell Is Human by Daniel Pink. I like Pink’s writing and his videos, but this book didn’t resonate. Sure, there were some gems, but overall, I’ve read better books on “how to sell.”

I’m about to finish book 40 for the year!

I also published a blog post every day this week (my 49th day straight) and found out I’ll be speaking at a meetup in October. That means I will have either spoken at a meetup or a conference every month this year except December.

I’ll Try Again Next Week

I’ll try this again next week if for no other reason than I like this weekly wrap up.
