The Week in Review: Week of July 22 - How did I do?

So here I am, on Friday, looking back over the week.

Must Do

  • Prep for a talk I’m giving on the 26th - DONE!
  • Knock the talk out of the park on Friday! - DONE! A full room, and some great feedback after the session!
  • Prepare for the new gig I’m starting on later in the week. There’s some studying to do on some parts of the ecosystem I’ll be working in that I’m not familiar with. - DONE, but…there’s still a lot to do for onboarding on the project.

Should Do

  • Start reading “Think Again” by Adam Grant or return it to the library
  • Study (and take notes) for AZ104 which is scheduled for July 31.
  • Schedule the next few months of meetings for the meetup I run. I know the topics I want, I just need to find speakers!
  • Finish transcribing my notes from reading Crucial Conversations and return the book to the library
  • Get through chapters 5-7 in Jean Tabaka’s Collaboration Explained - PARTIAL - I got through chapter 5, and into chapter 6.

Could Do

  • Start working on some data analysis for an upcoming blog post I want to write.
  • Research new themes for my blog - DONE! Look for changes soon.
  • Commit some code to GitHub that only lives on my Windows machine.

Won’t Do

  • Spend time playing computer games during the week - DONE! I did really well on this, even with the release of new content in World of Warcraft! I simply kept my gaming machine turned off during the day, and didn’t even think about turning it on until my work was done.

Yikes, not very good, eh?

  • I was 100% on my “Must Do” list.
  • I was a big ZERO on my “Should Do” list.
  • I was 33% on my “Could Do” list.
  • I was 100% on my “Won’t Do” list.
  • I had an overall 41.6% completion rate.

Other things

Work got interesting as I finally started my new project. I was given an onboarding document to start with, so there’s lots of learning to do. I did start, but still have a few things to get through before the real work starts next week.

I helped a bit more on a proposal at work - it’s due on Monday. Another consultant has the lead on it, so I’ve been helping with estimations and some architectural discussions, but it wraps up today, so yay!

I finished book 41 of the year: Stephen King’s ‘Salem’s Lot.

Final Thoughts

So, what I’m learning here is that my “Should Do” list is my sticking point. That’s two weeks in a row with zero completion on that list.
