Stop Telling Everyone How Busy You Are
I’m feeling a bit ranty tonight.
Hot take: You’re only as busy as you allow yourself to be.
I get so tired of people blathering on about how busy they are. They talk about working late, or on weekends. They talk about having no time to get their job done, but they seem to accept every meeting request. They join every extracurricular activity at work. They can be found on social media, “catching up.”
There is a simple solution to this problem: Learn to say no!
You don’t need to accept EVERY meeting request that comes your way. You don’t need to join every extracurricular activity at work. You don’t have to “catch up” on social media or the news.
But, they say they want to get ahead at work. They want to have some high and mighty title and this is the way to do it, to show their dedication.
Maybe those things will help get you “ahead” at work. Fine. Cool. If that’s your goal, to get ahead, I’m all for it, but that means this “busyness” is self-inflicted. If this is you, please, for the rest of us, stop with this “I’m so busy” nonsense!
Also, if I see someone with a big title and their time management is garbage, it annoys me even more.
/end rant
