Weekly goals: Status of last week’s goals, and Goals for the week of August 19
First, a quote to start the week:
Productivity is more the product of focus than time. - Mark Manson
How did I do for the week of August 12
Must Do
Prep for my two sessions at DevUp and deliver them both on 8/15- DONE.
Should Do
- Attend some awesome sessions at DevUp! - Hmmm, no sessions, but the hallway track kicked ass.
- Write an extra blog post or two this week as a buffer for the future - Yikes, I actually fell behind and skipped 3 days.
- Submit to Codemash when the CFP opens - this remains a TODO
Could Do
- Schedule something for the Tech Support meeting for September - Nothing yet.
- Start working on some data analysis for an upcoming blog post I want to write. - Ok, dropping this one for the coming week.
Won’t Do
Anything stupid at DevUp 🤦♂️- It depends on the definition of stupid, eh? I did pretty well, so I’ll count this one as a win.
- I was 100% on my “Must Do” list.
- I was 0% on my “Should Do” list.
- I was 0% on my “Could Do” list.
- I was 100% on my “Won’t Do” list.
- I had an overall 28.5% completion rate.
Other Stuff
On Monday, my wife and I saw the Stray Cats in concert! It was a great show!
I spent most of the week in St. Louis at DevUp. I left Tuesday morning to drive to a friend’s house in Cincinnati before we headed to Louisville to pick up another friend. It was a long day of driving, but it ended up with a good dinner with friends once we got to the hotel.
Wednesday was spent moving some things forward for my new project. It wasn’t much - just some mandatory training for the client, but at least it was something.
Wednesday everning was the speaker dinner for the event, and we got to play some game shows which was a lot more fun than I expected. My team was way behind going into the final game, but we managed a comeback to take the win!
On Thursday I delivered two sessions and then stayed up way too late talking to friends.
Friday was the reverse of Tuesday, but I got home earlier than expected.
Saturday was spent either sleeping or lounging on the couch watching TV.
For the week of August 19, 2024
What I’m reading
I didn’t read at all last week, so nothing has changed here; I’m still reading Collaboration Explained by Jean Tabaka and And There Was Light by Jon Meacham. The Meacham book is slow going only because I keep getting sidetracked with King novels.

Final Thoughts
A question for the week:
Do you have an evening routine that you follow when you wrap your day up?
